Ted Handy MRAIC, OAA, LEED AP
As the lead architect and principal of the firm since 1990, Ted Handy is responsible for the overall direction of each project to its successful realization. As Principal, he is the person who is accountable to clients throughout the entire evolution of each project from its conception until the building is successfully completed. It is his extensive experience and integrated approach that ensures all client concerns become clearly translated, without compromise, and that the client and the user groups are continuously aware of the evolution of the design. Upon completing his education in architecture and environmental studies at the University of Waterloo in 1976, Ted Handy went out to work for the Chandler Kennedy Architectural Group, one of the largest architectural practices in the country. During this time Ted was an associate partner and senior project administrator. He then moved to the Dover Park Development Corporation Limited, with the position of development manager. These positions provided a detailed background in planning, project development, construction, financing, and operation, which he applies today at Ted Handy and Associates. Ted has designed several award winning facilities for a diverse group of loyal clientele from municipalities to school boards and commercial to residential.
Rob Knight
As a principal and senior designer, Rob Knight leads the design and production team while monitoring the scheduling and coordination of the contract documents to ensure that the production of documents is in sync with the construction process. Rob works closely with Ted Handy to oversee the development of design, the project team and the technical aspects of the project. He brings to the team his extensive production, design build and contract supervision of diversified portfolio. Upon graduating in 1989 from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute’s Architectural Science program, Rob joined Crange and Boake Architects Limited. Continuing in his architectural design experience, Rob also was a team member of Moffat Kinoshita Inc., and Teeple Architects. His experience as project manager on numerous projects brings thorough knowledge of large complex facilities. He has provided a leadership role on various building types including institutional, commercial, residential (low and high rise), places of worship, and industrial. This experience has covered the many elements of project management and execution from document preparation to consultant coordination, contract administration, project analysis, and design development.
The Associates
Anna Frankiewicz, Senior Technologist
As a Senior Technologist, Anna Frankiewicz works closely with the design team assisting in the development of the design and overseeing the production and coordination of contract drawings. Anna has been with the firm since 1988 and has worked mainly on large projects, including institutions, community centres and churches.
Anna has an exceptional amount of experience in consultant coordination including; structural, mechanical, electrical and specialty projects. She also provides her expertise in schematic studies, design development, presentations and model creation.
Craig Handy, Architect
Craig Handy is a registered Architect with 15 years of professional experience. Craig is involved in all aspects of the design process, from concept design though design development, consultant coordination, regulatory approvals, construction documents and project review. He has experience working on new and existing projects in many sectors – residential, community, commercial, hospitality, master-planning and large-scale mixed-used developments. His residential experience includes mid- and high-rise developments as well as private residences. Craig has worked internationally, with projects based in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the UK. While in London he was an architectural and urban designer as well as a BIM consultant. Craig is responsible for BIM coordination and authoring at THA.
Jessica Mawson, Architect
Architect Jessica Mawson joined the Ted Handy & Associates team after the completion of a Master of Architecture Degree in 2014. She has experience in a wide variety of project types from residential renovations to larger scale institutional projects. Using her skills in a variety of 3D modeling and drafting software, Jessica works in collaboration with the team involved in design development, production of construction documents, detailing, and 3D renderings.
Kristal O’Shea, Architect
Kristal O’Shea is a registered OAA Architect. Working closely with the design team, Kristal is involved with design development, permit approvals, production of construction documents and client correspondence. She has experience working on new and existing projects ranging from municipal, community, commercial, and custom residential. Kristal is a skilled BIM user and develops building designs mostly in Revit Architecture and Green Building Studio for the entirety of each project.
Sadaf Badakhshanfard, Architect
Sadaf Badakhshanfard completed her Masters of Architecture degree in 2012. She has obtained her license and is registered with the OAA, and is involved in the production of detailed drawing documents and consultant coordination here at THA. She has experience in a wide range of projects, from residential to mixed used developments. Sadaf is a skilled BIM user and has teaching experience with software programs such as AutoCAD Revit and 3D max.
Shannon McMillan, Intern Architect
Shannon McMillan is an OAA Intern Architect and LEED Green Associate. During her post-secondary education Shannon joined the THA team for several terms; worked at Danielson Architecture Office Inc.; and as a teaching assistant at the McEwen School of Architecture – where she completed her M.Arch thesis on the relationships between architecture, phenomenology, and mental health. After graduation Shannon rejoined the THA team, where she continues to grow her experience on both new and renovation/addition projects, ranging in scale across a variety of sectors – including institutional, commercial, and residential. Shannon supports the THA collaborative design process by assisting in design development; construction documents; consultant coordination; material research; renderings; and 3D modelling.
Michelle McLaren, Intern Architect
Michelle McLaren, an Intern Architect registered with the OAA, joined the Ted Handy & Associates team shortly after the completion of her Master of Architecture Degree at Laurentian University in 2021. Working in collaboration with the team, Michelle is involved with design development, production of construction documents, consultant coordination and 3D rendering.
Saman Soltani, Intern Architect
Saman Soltani has been an OAA Intern Architect and a LEED Green Associate since 2022. Saman joined the THA team in 2022, after graduating from Carleton University with a Master of Architecture. She has worked on a variety of projects including residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial. Her responsibilities include design development, construction document, permit approvals, consultant coordination, material research, rendering and 3D modeling.

Riya Patel, Intern Architect
Riya Patel is an OAA Intern Architect who joined the Ted Handy & Associates team after completing her Masters in Architecture, at McEwen School of Architecture. With the aim of becoming an Architect, she has worked on a variety of new projects, including additions and renovations. Riya has been involved in the development of buildings in different scales and purposes such as institutional, commercial, and residential. She has been helpful in preparing design development drawings, construction documents, consultant coordination, material research, rendering and 3D modeling.
Lianyi Wang, Architectural Designer/Technologist
Lianyi Wang joined the Ted Handy & Associates team in 2024, shortly after graduating from George Brown College with a diploma in Architectural Technology. That same year, she became a registered Ontario Building House Designer. Leveraging her expertise in 3D modeling and drafting software, Lianyi collaborates with the Long-Term Care Home team, contributing to design development, construction documentation, detailing, and 3D renderings.
Jordan Camirand, Office Manager and Marketing Strategies
Jordan has always had an interest in architecture and the intriguing way the exterior of buildings can be designed in ways most people wouldn’t think possible. After completing her undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences, she began her management, HR, and marketing journey by opening and running the office of one of Canada’s first veterinary hospice centres. By helping build an office from the ground up, she found a real passion for office management in all aspects and is now in school to become a Human Resources Manager. She is excited to have joined the Ted Handy and Associates team, and to help the firm consolidate its mission, vision, and values into its organizational strategies, while providing exceptional customer service to our clients and consultants.
Lorraine Handy, Accounting
For the past 24 years, Lorraine Handy has handled the financial management of the firm, including accounts receivable, accounts payable and the payroll.
